This is an insurance inspection. The Wind Mitigation Inspection verifies construction methods. It MAY create insurance discounts for home owners. Homes must undergo and submit a Certified Home Wind Inspection to verify eligibility.

Proper wind mitigation construction provides greater protection from high winds. It helps protect homes from damage and loss of life during a severe storm, hurricane, or tornado. It benefits homeowners, private insurers, and all levels of government.

Many Floridians do not know of this.

In 1992 Hurricane Andrew struck the South Florida coast with great force. He caused upwards of 26.5 Billion dollars in damage. Wind Mitigation Inspections, also known as Windstorm Inspections were implemented.

During a Wind Mitigation Inspection, your home inspector evaluates the following:
  1. Roof Covering
  2. Roof Deck Attachment
  3. Roof Geometry
  4. Gable End Bracing
  5. Secondary Water Barrier
  6. Roof to Wall Connections
  7. Wall Construction Type, and
  8. Opening Protection
A Wind Mitigation Inspection is NOT a Roof Certification Inspection.

It is NOT a substitution for a full Generalist Residential Home Inspection. It is far less comprehensive.

Wind mitigation helps protect homes from damage and loss of life during a severe storm, hurricane, or tornado. It  benefits homeowners, private insurers, and all levels of government.

In 2006, Citizens Insurance, one of the largest property insurers in Florida, requested a 45% rate increase for wind insurance. Other insurers followed suit. To be approved for a mortgage lenders in Florida require homeowners to carry windstorm insurance.  If your home vulnerable to wind damage your home may not get insured.

In Florida, the wind damage portion of your homeowner's premium, may be up to 70% of the total. The hurricane-prone areas deductibles can exceed $20,000. Mild to moderate wind damage might not be covered by insurance at all.

The Florida Government intervened on behalf of Florida homeowners after Hurricane Andrew. They required insurance companies start offering, “discounts, credits, or other rate differentials…” for construction techniques that reduce damage and loss in windstorms. See: Florida Statute 553.844.

What Our Clients Are Saying:

I found Desmond on the internet. From start to finish Desmond was a really nice guy he helped me out and pointed out some things that I thought were very valid as far as what you need to know before you buy a home. I feel secure with his reports and I am going to buy the home because of what Desmond has told us. I appreciate all of his hard work and I’ll definitely refer him to all of my friends and family. Matt Hamilton, Orlando, Florida
